William Howard Lewis [aka Howard Lewis] died of throat cancer at Martinez and his ashes were scattered around the Lysite area for internment.
W.H. Lewis, Don Hotel Chef, Dies William Howard Lewis, head chef at the Hotel Don, died in a Martinez Hospital early today following a long illness. He was 44. Lewis formerly operated the Plaza Cafe here for many years. He was a native of Lost Cabin, Wyoming and a Richmond resident the past 12 years. He came here from Montana. Lewis was a member of the Bartenders and Culinary Workers Union Local 592 of Richmond. Surviving are his wife Dorothy; and a daughter, Mrs. Miriam J. Nierman of Vellejo and four children living at home, William, Robert, Ida and Raymond. He is also survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William I. Lewis of Lysite, Wyoming and two brothers, Charles Lewis of Virginia and Rex Lewis of Bachelor, Missouri. Services will be held Monday at 3:30 p.m. from Wilson and Kratzer Mortuary, Seventh street and Bissell Avenue. Rev. Leon L. Loofbourow of the Church of the Good Shepherd, Methodist, will officiate. Committal will follow in Sunset View Cemetery, El Cerrito.
